The subject matter of this collection of fine prints is Maynooth town (where I live), with its streetscapes, cafés, corners, church spires and local beauty spots. In this original artwork print, Maynooth Harbour features. It is a lovely spot between the train station and the main street. It has a tiny island on it and each year Swans nest on the banks of the island. This is also the start of the Royal Canal Greenway, a fabulous canal bank walk and greenway stretching to from Maynooth to Longford. I have this print on my kitchen wall where the colours match the print.
The harbour and canal waters were frozen and the the ice, gave the birds somewhere to stand as other birds flew above the gaps in the ice. To bring out the coldness, I contrasted red textures with acid green and aqua blue. You just might need to wear a hat and scarf looking at this artwork!
